Throughout the festival a number of workshops will be held on various topics.
Registration for workshops can be completed either online or at the door, on the day. Registration online is recommended, as each workshop has a limited number of places available.

The workshop will take you on a journey into the history of Polish Australian families and will explore the complexity of your family’s roots and will help demystify and recover the past

Make your own "Sunprint" with Renata Buziak
Have you ever created a photograph without a camera? Come along and learn about one of the earliest historical photographic processes: the cyanotype.
During the workshop you will create your own unique cyanotype print using natural materials, other objects and sunlight.
Cyanotype materials and some objects will be supplied, but feel free to bring your own small, flat items (such as pieces of lace, fabric, string, black card, permanent marker, plant cuttings) to use in your composition.
Suitable for adults and children 8+ accompanied by a parent or carer.

PolArt 2018 BRISBANE - ”Brisbane’s Narratives”
“Brisbane’s Narratives” with Jolanta Szymczyk [Yolanta Shimchik], Brisbane based textile artist, aims to celebrate and capture the spirit of Brisbane through the city’s unique botanical and landscape forms, textures and patterns.
It provides an opportunity to look closer at the city’s unique environment and embrace its stunning beauty, natural and cultural heritage and the city’s friendly and vibrant character. The participants will complete small textile piece and convert it into a one-off, personally made and designed wearable accessory.
THE WORKSHOP
The workshop will run for approximately 1.5 hrs
Participants will explore various textile printing techniques assisting to capture Brisbane’s unique flora, inspiring textures and the city’s patterns and print their impressions, interpretations and inspirations on Baltic linen, celebrating Polish textile and fiber art traditions.
This workshop is suitable for all age groups. No previous experience is necessary.
Jolanta Szymczyk’s practice, since its first operating days going back to early 2000s is committed to a zero waste design philosophy and principles. The practice is using safe, non-toxic materials.

Online Resources and Methods for Learning Polish
Presented by Joe Stanny
Joe grew up using Polish at home in Tasmania. He is a teacher of Japanese and presents online courses. He enjoys finding online resources for people who might wish to learn, up-skill or maintain contact with the Polish Language. He has a particular interest in finding free or inexpensive resources. In order to succeed as a language learner, the learner needs to have fun. This means that resources need to be tailored to individual learning styles. In this session, he will present a wide variety of resources and discuss fun ways to learn Polish. Remember: ‘If you’re not enjoying it, you won’t bother doing it!’

Children's movement workshop sessions
Yvonne (Iwona) Kower has a background in movement, dance, physical theatre and yoga. Having studied at the London International School of Performing Arts and at the Laban Centre in England, she works as a movement director and tutor in movement for actors at major acting schools in Sydney. She is a dance coach for artistic gymnastics, specialising in developing physical creativity and perfection in performance. She also lectured in dance education (primary) at the Australian Catholic University for many years. As former artistic director of the Polish Folkloric Ensemble “Syrenka” for over ten years, she created many dance pieces for all ages, some of which are still performed today.
